COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY is essentially about addressing distorted judgements and behaviours that result from long standing rigid thinking and are the cause of distress in the everyday lives of people. It works by addressing negative thoughts and looking at how you think about and see yourself, the world and other people. CBT can help to change how you think about things that are troubling you (Cognitive) and what strategies you use to manage those thoughts (Behaviour).
CBT has been shown to help with many different types of problems. These will include: anxiety, depression, panic, phobias, stress, bulimia, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder and psychosis. CBT may also help if you have difficulties with anger, low self esteem or physical health problems, like pain or fatigue.
