Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (cCBT)
The benefits of Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (cCBT) for the treatment of some mild to moderate mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression are now widely recognised and advocated by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).
Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or cCBT is an interactive computer programme based on cognitive behavioural therapy principles. The computer packages are provided by a number of organisations and differ as to their applicability for different types of conditions.
The programmes guide the user through the principles of CBT as a therapist would, there are tasks to try, information to read and ideas to think about which will help you gain better understanding of your thoughts and feelings and how you can help yourself overcome your difficulties. cCBT programmes are all modular, consisting of around 8 sessions and the user works at their own pace at home or other convenient venue.
cCBT offered by Oakdale is provided in conjunction with support provided over the telephone by an Oakdale therapist. An initial assessment is done to understand your issues and the level of distress you experience from these issues. Different treatment options will be discussed with you during the assessment (depending on the different forms of therapy available to you under your organisation’s contract). If you and the therapist agree that cCBT is appropriate, the therapist will refer you to the right website for you to register, will help you understand what to expect and will be on hand for you to discuss any issues that may arise be they technical to do with accessing the programme or relating to thoughts and feelings associated with doing the modules.
