What happens next?
If we receive a referral from your doctor, we will contact you to arrange an initial assessment to help us understand your needs in more detail. If you choose to contact us directly, we will make this appointment for you straight away.
This assessment is usually done on the telephone and takes about 45 minutes. However, it can be done face to face if you prefer. As part of the assessment we discuss the different treatment options with you, as well as your availability for appointments.
You will be offered a choice of effective therapies, so that you can get the sort of help that you want.
NTT provides a local service with therapists working in GP practices and other local venues throughout the Newcastle area. Some therapies are also delivered by telephone.
If we do not hear from you within a few weeks of being referred by your GP, we will try to contact you. However, if we are unable to reach you, we will let your GP know. Please do not hesitate to call NTT at any time should you wish us to arrange counselling for you.
Client confidentially is important to NTT. Your therapist will provide details of NTT’s commitment to client confidentiality and our client confidentiality policy at your first appointment.
The service has therapists available who speak a variety of languages. If you would prefer to receive therapy in a language other than English please let your GP know upon referral or make Oakdale aware at your first appointment. We will do our best to accommodate this request. If you would like to see a therapist able to speak a language other than English and we cannot accommodate this in our face-to-face service, we will be able to arrange telephone counselling in most languages.
Please note that the service is in high demand and each appointment is valuable. It is, therefore, important that you make every effort to attend your appointments. If in exceptional circumstances you are unable to attend please ensure that you give notice of at least three working days by telephoning the number above.
